Vozes Alfonsinas nos EUA

"[...] Vozes Alfonsinas, [have been invited] to perform at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, as part of the exhibition Encompassing the Globe: Portugal and the World in the 16th and 17th Centuries.

The exhibition will on display from June 23 through September 16, 2007, at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery. The Sackler Gallery and the neighboring Freer Gallery of Art together form the national museum of Asian art at the Smithsonian. The exhibition brings together more than 300 objects reflecting the unprecedented cross-cultural dialogue that followed the establishment of Portugal's world trading network in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, reaching Africa, India, China, Southeast Asia, Japan, and Brazil.

Vozes Alfonsinas is the ideal ensemble to expand upon the themes of this exhibition through music. Your impressive recording project, La Mar de la Musica: Vilancicos e musica instrumental dos seculos XVI e XVII, provides an enlightening view of the many ways that composers responded to the influx of artifacts and stories returning to Portugal from her many outposts across the world.
